A great opportunity to utilise and grow experience in arboriculture with a short-term appointment as an Arboriculture Officer in our Trees and Irrigation team from 3 December 2025 to 13 January 2026.
The Role
The position is responsible for conducting tree assessments in accordance with Council policies and relevant legislation, while providing excellent customer service through clear and timely communication about the progress and outcomes of customer requests. Working collaboratively across teams, the Arboriculture Officer also contributes to the development of tree planting programs and related project work that enhance the city’s urban environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, manage, and document Council trees in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and management plans, including determining priorities for removals, maintenance, and planting.
- Respond to customer and contractor enquiries promptly and professionally, managing written tree removal requests and providing clear communication on outcomes.
- Ensure quality, safety, and compliance through adherence to Work Health & Safety, risk management, information management, and child safety requirements.
- Promote a positive and customer-focused culture by living Council values, contributing to continuous improvement, and delivering innovative, high-quality services to the community.
Skills & Experience
- Strong ability to plan, schedule, and monitor tasks and resources, demonstrating flexibility and accountability in achieving outcomes.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, including written, verbal, and digital interactions across various platforms and systems.
- Proven capacity to analyse data, interpret plans and drawings, and prepare clear, concise reports to support sound decision-making.
- Skilled in problem solving, negotiation, and mediation, with a creative and collaborative approach to resolving issues and improving processes.
Knowledge
- Technical knowledge of trees, arboriculture and the environment.
- Understanding of employee responsibilities under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA).
- Understanding and appreciation of the Charles Sturt community, Council’s strategic direction, and employee values.

Arboriculture Officer position is a Level 3 classification, fortnightly salary starting at $3,304 plus superannuation.
